The high-performance 2017 BMW M2 can’t seem to escape the spotlight. The speedy compact coupe adds two new titles to its collection of awards, earning recognition from two of the biggest names in the automotive world: Car and Driver and Motor Trend.

Car and Driver’s 2017 10Best Cars

Landing on the 10Best Cars list is no easy feat, but the M2 makes it seem simple. Sharing the position with the new BMW M240i, which serves as a slightly calmer version, the M2 earns attention for its electrifying performance. The M2 offers endless thrills with its rigid suspension, unmatched cornering, athletic suspension and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. The judges also remarked that it is one of the only compact options with rear-wheel drive. Plus, a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-six kicks out 365 horsepower and 343 pound-feet of torque at 7,000 rpm.

Motor Trend Best Car to Buy 2017

The BMW M2 beat out several contenders for the ultimate title of Best Car to Buy, including high-performers like the Porsche 718, Audi S4 and Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. According to staff writer Joe Feder, the M2 is “all in when it comes to performance,” which is proven by every aspect of the coupe from its aerodynamic design to its hair-raising acceleration. The judges recommend the six-speed manual gearbox with rev-matching, which sends the M2 from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds.

BMW M2 Overview

In addition to the features and specs detailed above, the M2 is equipped with auto-start stop, track-ready cooling, quad tailpipes and Xenon adaptive headlights. While the coupe is performance-oriented, it doesn’t sacrifice on creature comforts. Leather upholstery, 14-way power front sport seats with lumbar support and side bolsters, heated front seats, automatic climate control and ambient lighting are all included on the M2.

The M2’s technology is also quite impressive. The central console hosts an 8.8-inch display that is controlled via touchpad. Outfitted with standard navigation, HD radio, Bluetooth phone and audio, and iDrive infotainment with smartphone integration, drivers will enjoy staying connected on the go and rocking out their favorite music over the 12-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system.
