The new BMW i7 is being developed around that idea. It combines fully electric performance with the space, craftsmanship and executive-level comfort of BMW’s flagship sedan. How Powerful Will the New BMW i7 Be?
BMW has announced two initial all-electric configurations.
The BMW i7 50 xDrive is expected to produce 449 horsepower, while the i7 60 xDrive raises output to 536 horsepower. Both use two electric motors and BMW xDrive all-wheel drive. Preliminary BMW testing estimates that the i7 60 xDrive can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds.
Electric motors can deliver power without waiting for an engine to build speed or a transmission to select another gear. In the i7, that immediate response is paired with an adaptive two-axle air suspension and Integral Active Steering.
Rear-wheel steering can help the i7 negotiate tighter streets and parking areas around Lincoln while preserving a stable, confident feel during longer highway drives.
How Far Can the New BMW i7 Travel?
BMW currently estimates a maximum driving range of up to 350 miles, depending on the selected configuration, wheels, weather, driving habits and accessory use. Because certification is not complete, that figure should be considered a preliminary BMW estimate rather than a final EPA rating.
That projected range could make the i7 practical for much more than a daily commute. Many Nebraska drivers could complete routine travel around Lincoln, make regional trips and return home with substantial range remaining.
Longer journeys will be supported by an integrated navigation system capable of planning charging stops based on the route and the vehicle’s remaining energy.
Where Can You Charge a BMW i7?
The new i7 will feature a native North American Charging Standard port. This will provide access to compatible Tesla Superchargers available through the BMW ChargingNetwork.
BMW also says that the vehicle will include adapters for compatible CCS DC fast chargers and J1772 AC charging equipment. Owners will therefore be able to use several major charging formats rather than being restricted to one network.
Home-charging choices are expected to include:
- The included charger for compatible 120- or 240-volt outlets
- The available BMW Wallbox Plus
- Charging controls through the My BMW App
- Scheduled charging during preferred hours
- Remote monitoring of charging status
Final fast-charging times and model-specific charging curves remain subject to confirmation.
What Makes the BMW i7 Interior Different?
The absence of a gasoline engine creates a naturally quiet foundation for the cabin. BMW builds on that advantage with high-end materials, configurable lighting and displays designed to place information where occupants can use it naturally.
BMW Panoramic Vision projects information across the lower windshield area. The driver can also use the Central Display and available BMW 3D Head-Up Display, while an available 14.6-inch BMW Passenger Screen gives the front passenger a dedicated entertainment and productivity interface.
The available Executive Lounge turns the rear cabin into the i7’s main event. Depending on its configuration, it can provide:
- Heated, ventilated and massaging rear seats
- An extended leg rest and passenger footrest
- Rear-door controls for comfort and entertainment
- A 31.3-inch 8K BMW Theatre Screen
- Available Bowers & Wilkins surround sound
This is not simply a battery-powered version of a gasoline sedan. It is a flagship luxury experience that benefits from the silence and seamless response of electric propulsion.
