BMW Owners Celebrate a Lot of Hands-Free Driving
Part of the reason BMW drivers were able to celebrate this unique milestone is that the BMW Highway Assistant makes it a pleasure to drive hands-free on highways around the world. And while BMW Highway Assistant isn't available everywhere in Europe yet, the technology is still undergoing a drastic expansion.
BMW's Senior Vice President of Driving and Experience Development recently spoke out about how special this feature is. Dr. Mihiar Ayoubi says, "The symbiotic interplay between driver and driver assistance during hands-free driving with our Highway Assistant, and the underlying safety concept, is unique in the industry. Over 200 million kilometers of hands-free highway driving in real-world customer use demonstrate just how reliable and relevant this system is in everyday life."
BMW Highway Assistant incorporates concepts such as lane detection, vehicle positioning, and lane centering to enable drivers to go hands-free when the mood strikes. The ADAS has a computer that continuously tracks the vehicle's location and the assistant's status. To help drivers stay aware and catch any problems with the system, a camera monitors them and alerts them if they need to take over the whole show.
Motorway Assistant is also standard on some BMW models (from the iX3 onward). Development is always ongoing because BMW never stops trying to make life easier for its drivers. It's obvious that owners love BMW Highway Assistant. When folks respect and trust a technology, they use it, and drivers can certainly expect many more millions of miles from this tech. BMW will be there all the way, revising and refining the system as necessary.
