Designed for the luxury market, BMW vehicles have lots of high-tech amenities that improve comfort, convenience and connectivity. You can use a smartphone or other signature hardware to start the engine of your compatible BMW model remotely.

Three Convenient Options for the BMW Remote Engine Start

Available on the Apple Store and Google Play Store, the BMW Connected App allows you to remotely manage the infotainment system, engine, climate control system and other parts of your BMW vehicle. Using an iPhone or Android smartphone, you can schedule a remote start of the engine block ahead of time. This mobile app could activate, stop or plan the engine preconditioning option in the iDrive multimedia system.

You can manually adjust the Remote Engine Start option on the infotainment system's touch screen. There's an option for the "Starting Engine For Climate Control" function in the iDrive operating system menu. You could check or uncheck the box for this option based on your preferences for scheduled activation of the HVAC system and engine. The vehicle will start automatically at a preset scheduled time if you select the "Starting Engine For Climate Control" check box. You don't have to open the app on your smartphone to activate the Remote Engine Start that's already scheduled in the infotainment console. However, be sure to leave this option unchecked if you don't want your vehicle to start automatically at a scheduled time.

The BMW Display Key can also be used to start your vehicle's engine remotely. This advanced hardware comes with a small touch screen and several hard keys. When standing near the vehicle, you can manually select the time of the next engine start. Similarly, the regular electronic key fob may be used to turn on your car's engine from a certain distance.
