What Is the BMW iX Electric Crossover?
The iX is BMW's future electric flagship vehicle. It is looking to usher BMW into a new era of electrification, and it will be used as a bench test to optimize BMW's latest technologies. The iX is looking to make BMW a serious contender in the electric vehicle game, and our preliminary predictions show that BMW may be onto something with the iX.
Styling
The iX shares the same styling that BMW has unveiled for the all-new 3 Series and 4 Series. The massive kidney-shaped grilles help conceal driving sensors and safety systems to give the iX a more streamlined look. The iX's design is fairly minimalist on the exterior, which helps to decrease its drag coefficient and increase its efficiency. You can see remnants of BMW i3 styling throughout the vehicle, like with the overall layout of the trunk and taillights.
Interior
The cabin of the iX also has vestiges of the i3's design philosophy. The interior features many renewable and recycled materials. It has a dual-screen layout and a massive dashboard, similar to the one found in the i3. The screens are conjoined and much larger than the iX's predecessors. They are high-definition, and BMW reports that the computer system in the iX is five times faster than any of its current hardware. The iX will need this powerful computer as BMW is most likely looking to roll out some of its self-driving features with future iX models.
Performance
BMW has not released any official numbers regarding the iX yet, but they have given us some rough estimates on its performance. It will most likely have over 300 miles of range if properly equipped. We are expecting a dual-motor setup and around 500 horsepower. We predict these power figures will allow the iX to accelerate from 0-60 mph in under five seconds. The iX will come with 200 kW capable DC fast charging. This system will allow you to get 75 miles of range in around 10 minutes of charging, and you can charge it from 10-percent to 80-percent in approximately 40 minutes.
