How Often Should I Service My BMW X5?

Your BMW X5 requires regular service to stay healthy and perform at peak capacity, much as you require periodic doctor's appointments to remain in top health. Your BMW will need to have routine mileage-based services beginning at 15,000 miles. Service intervals continue up to 90,000 miles and sometimes beyond to help your BMW operate at its best. Regardless of whether your BMW is approaching its first or fifth of the service points recommended in the BMW X5 maintenance schedule, it's critical to keep up with all mileage-based checkups. To ensure your BMW gets optimal care, you should follow the BMW X5 service intervals in the owner's manual.

15,000-Mile Service

When your BMW hits 15,000 miles, it will be due for its first mileage-based service inspection. Your X5 will need to have the oil changed at this point. Before the 15,000-mile mark, your car will have had its oil changed once or twice already. Along with simply having the oil changed, a mechanic will likely change the engine filter as well to make sure that clean air reaches the engine and circulates through the car's fuel lines. Your BMW's tires will probably be rotated or at least visually inspected at 15,000 miles. The brakes and steering linkage will also be evaluated.

30,000-Mile Service

When your car hits 30,000 miles, it will be due for the next service. Along with the oil change and tire rotation, your car will have the brakes and braking system checked. The brake pads will most likely be replaced at this point. The car's fluid levels will also be checked for all significant components, including the brakes and transmission. The exhaust system will also get inspected for signs of leaks and general operating conditions.

60,000-Mile Service

The 60,000-mile checkpoint brings additional maintenance requirements for your BMW. At 60,000 miles, your car will have all the services repeated that was performed at 30,000 miles. Additionally, the air filters in both the engine and the cabin will be replaced. The brakes will be checked out for condition, and the brake pads and rotors may be replaced. The spark plugs may be changed as well. The battery gets inspected at this point, along with the car's drive belts.

90,000-Mile Service

When your car reaches 90,000 miles, it is due for another service. The transmission and transmission are several major parts checked at this point. The car's fluid levels will be rechecked and replaced if necessary. Hoses, belts, and connections will be inspected as well for signs of problems.
