What's New for the 2022 BMW 5 Series?

The BMW 5 Series is largely unchanged from 2021. However, it remains a powerful and luxurious sedan with a number of notable features and plenty of performance capability, even if you don't get the high-performance variant called the M5. There are four exceptional trim levels to choose from in the 2022 5 Series, and several engine options are also available.

2022 5 Series Trims and Features

The base trim level in the 2022 BMW 5 Series is called the 530i. This trim is available with both a regular and a hybrid engine. It also comes with a substantial list of amenities. The base model includes a 12.3-inch infotainment system with integrated navigation. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also included. The base model has power-adjustable seats in the front row, and it also comes with a leather steering wheel. A sunroof is standard as well. The hybrid version has the same basic amenities but a different engine. The next trim in the lineup is called the 540i. It can be equipped with several packages, including a Parking Assistance package with more safety aids. You can also get a Driving Assistance Plus package with additional safety amenities. The M Sport follows with a choice of wheels ranging from 19 to 20 inches. It has a sporty steering wheel and sporty exterior trim details. A sport suspension system is available as well. With the Premium package, you can get a wireless device charging pad and Harman Kardon sound system. The M550i has a rear spoiler, upgraded leather upholstery, and a sporty steering wheel. It also has a premium sound system. You can get another package for this trim that adds a high-performance adaptive suspension system and an active steering system.

A variety of engines are available for the BMW 5 Series, depending on the trim you get. The base engine is a gasoline engine that produces nearly 250 HP in power and 260 LB-FT in torque. Alternatively, you can get a plug-in hybrid engine that generates 288 HP in power and 310 LB-FT of torque. Along with its exceptional power output, the hybrid also produces about 21 miles of all-electric range. If you go with the 540i, you'll get a larger and more powerful V6 engine capable of 335 HP and 330 LB-FT of torque. Topping the lineup is the M550i engine, a turbo V8 engine that creates 523 HP in power and 553 LB-FT of torque. All-wheel drive is available with most trims.
