World-renowned automaker BMW recently celebrated a major milestone: It has produced seven million vehicles in the US. BMW, a German automaker, has production plants globally, including the United States. The automaker started production in the US in 1994, and in March 2025, its seventh million vehicle rolled off the line at the Spartanburg manufacturing plant in South Carolina.
About the 7th Million BMW
The car that helped BMW achieve this monumental milestone was the XB7, which is a performance luxury SUV. For its accomplishment, BMW also gave the XB7 some notable upgrades and improvements, including a body kit, custom floor mats, a commemorative badge, and special wheels. The XB7 also has a premium interior with Merino leather seats, and its interior is decorated with a high-end walnut black trim. Other features that stand out in the XB7 include a leather steering wheel with a unique blue color and green stitching accents. This luxury SUV also has captain's chairs in the second row and a panoramic sunroof. While the XB7 sounds like a vehicle many BMW owners would like to have, it is not currently available for sale, as BMW is reserving this car for its historic collection. Fortunately, with millions of other BMWs already produced in the US and even more globally, customers still have plenty of great options to choose from.
Spartanburg, SC Production
The Spartanburg manufacturing facility is the original BMW facility in South Carolina, and the automaker plans to build a second facility to expand its footprint. BMW's Spartanburg plant opened in 1992, which is when the company decided to open manufacturing facilities in the state. Along with Spartanburg, BMW also has a forthcoming manufacturing plant in Woodruff, South Carolina. Since it started vehicle production in the 1990s, BMW has invested nearly $15 billion in South Carolina. The automaker now plans to spend nearly $1 billion more to revamp its Spartanburg facility with the goal of increasing electric vehicle production. By 2030, BMW plans to manufacture at least six different electric cars at its Spartanburg plant. The automaker will also build a battery plant in Woodruff, South Carolina, to accompany the new electric vehicle production capabilities at Spartanburg.
