Several external changes have been made to the BMW 2 series, including options for grille frames, darkened taillights, new wheel designs, and optional mirror caps. Additionally, rain-sensing windshield wipers are now standard on both 2 Series models. Where BMW's rivals are putting out the competition in the form of creature comforts and technology in their coupes, the BMW Series 2 is designed with driving enthusiasts in mind who desire the classic BMW driving experience in their travels.
The BMW 2 Series features two models, the 230i and the M240i. While the M240i costs significantly more than the 230i, it comes with not only a substantially more powerful engine but comes equipped with standard power-adjustable front seats, adaptive suspension, exterior styling extras, adaptive cruise control, and a power sunroof. The front bucket seats are designed for comfort, and the dash and gauges are both designed to be straightforward in such a fashion as to appeal to classic sports car enthusiasts. Both models feature surprisingly generous trunk space and a very user-friendly infotainment system, along with a USB connection port. The premium option features traffic information, a navigation system, and a one-year subscription to Apple's CarPlay service.
Both BMW Series 2 models have manual and automatic 8-speed transmission options. The BMW 230i features a 248 hp turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine, while the M240i features a 3.0L turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine. The power in that m240i inline-six allows for a quick 0-to-60 mph in 4.3 seconds. Both models boast excellent handling responses on challenging roads, as well as an extremely comfortable suspension system. Both models' fuel-efficiency ratings average at 35 mpg, making either of the 2 Series models among the most fuel-efficient entry-level luxury coupes available on the auto market.
While the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not yet evaluated the BMW Series 2 vehicles, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has positively rated both models. Standard equipment includes driver assistance technology, forward collision warning, front and rear parking sensors, automated emergency braking, and lane departure warning.
